Skype For Business will merge with Teams

Posted by on

Microsoft recently announced that the Office 365 application Teams is going to take over Skype for Business.

What's going to happen to Skype for Business?

Skype for Business will still exist for a little while. However, Microsoft is urging users to embrace Teams. Yes, there will be a new Skype for Business for those unwilling to move in with Team.

How will Teams be different than what it already is?

There will reportedly be more calling features to the new Teams. This means you'll be able to hold calls, transfer calls, and leave calls to voicemail. Guests from outside of your company will also be able to join Teams. So you can pretty much do everything you could do on Skype for Business as you can on Teams.

Slack vs. the new Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams is a major competitor to Slack. Slack has 5 million users, whereas Office 365 has over 100 million subscribers. Both Team and Slack offers very similar functions such as direct messages, channels that are used for different projects, file sharing, notifications, and more.

How will this help you do business?

Microsoft is combining Skype and Teams to make it the one stop shop for team to collaborate. Adding more comprehensive chat features to Teams makes communicating with colleagues that much easier.

We will be releasing more training tutorials on this soon. Please stay tuned.
